Undergraduate Research Opportunities

If you are interested in working in our lab, we offer Departmental Independent Study (DIS) opportunities. These are worth 3 credit hours per semester. Please read the information below. If, after reading the information below, you are still interested in working in our lab, please email your completed application and direct any questions to Jennifer Leo (leo@psy.fsu.edu). Please include the words 'Maner DIS' in the subject line of your email.

Description of the DIS:

Undergraduate students who work in our lab gain hands on experience with research in social psychology. As a DIS student, you will be directly involved in one or more social psychology projects, working closely with graduate mentors. For a description of the type of research you might be involved in, please see our Research page.

Examples of your responsibilities in the lab may include:

           -Running participants through laboratory experiments

           -Administering surveys and computer-based tasks

-Acting as a confederate (i.e., pretending to be another participant in the study)

-Organizing and inputting data into spreadsheets

Additionally, we ask our DIS students to be active members of the research process. We hold many meetings throughout the semester where we discuss current research in the lab. DIS students are encouraged to put forth ideas and ask questions.

Benefits of working in the lab include:

-Learning about cutting edge research in social psychology

-Gaining hands-on experience with the scientific process in social psychology

-Gaining knowledge about graduate school and job possibilities in psychology

-Potentially gaining a letter of recommendation
