We have many ongoing research projects in the lab providing opportunities for undergraduate students enrolled in introductory psychology courses, research participants, and future research leaders to participate in our lab. If you are interested in any of the following descriptions, e-mail us at canlab.psych@gmail.com. |
Research ParticipantsWe are currently recruiting for two EEG/MRI experiments. Both experiments are two visits and are completed on FSU campus. We are looking for both healthy and clinical participants aged 18 to 50 to participate in our research. For participating in our research, we offer individuals cash compensation as well as an MR image of your brain. FSU students can also request SONA credits as compensation. To get involved in our research, we ask that you complete an online screening to ensure that you are eligible to participate. You can read more about the experiments and find the eligibility screeners below. Emotion and ElectricityOur emotion and electricity experiment is focused on non-invasive electrical stimulation as a potential treatment for PTSD. Some common questions concerning the stimulation and the experiment can be found on our emotion and electricity FAQ. The first visit includes a clinical interview as well as an introduction to the experiment. The second visit will include an EEG and MRI, with a brief, 20-minute stimulation period. Participants are compensated $20 per hour, with a potential total compensation of around $90 in addition to an MR image of your brain. SONA credits, up to a maximum of four, are also available for psychology students. If this research sounds like something you are interested in, please complete our emotion and electricity eligibility screening. Following completion of the screener, we will communicate your eligibility and the next steps via email. Chronic PainWe are also recruiting for another experiment exploring how chronic pain is experienced in the brain. To do this, we will apply pressure via an inflatable cuff on your right calf for six minutes while you are in an MRI scanner. Some common questions concerning the cuff and the experiment can be found on our pain FAQ. During the first session, we will apply various pressures to find a suitable pressure to simulate mild, chronic pain. Once we determine a suitable pressure, we will apply it for the six minutes to ensure that you would be comfortable experiencing it during the scan. For the second session, we will conduct an EEG and MRI while the cuff is both inflated and deflated. If this research sounds like something you are interested in, please complete the pain project eligibility screening. Following completion of the screener, we will communicate your eligibility and the next steps via email. If you have any questions concerning the research or your potential participation, please email us at canlab.psych@gmail.com |
Postdoctoral Fellowship OpportunitiesWe have a few open postdoctoral positions supported by major NIH funding (R01/R21) to study anxiety, stress, PTSD, and pain. We will use a combination of fMRI, EEG, tACS, psychophysics, and clinical assessment to understand the neural basis of those conditions. Interested candidates shall e-mail CV and a cover letter to Wen.Li.1@uth.tmc.edu. Undergraduate Research OpportunitiesThe psychology department has many ongoing research projects in the lab providing ample opportunities for undergraduate students to gain valuable research experience. Students have the opportunity to work with staff, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, other undergraduate students and to perform a variety of duties as needed for each project. You can find more details about undergraduate research on the department's wesbite. FSU Students:Our lab has moved to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. We are no longer recruiting for undergraduate students at Florida State University. |
Graduate Research OpportunitiesFor information on applying to the Department of Psychology as a graduate student, please see the Psychology Department's Graduate Studies webpage. |
Veterans & Military PersonnelWe have many opportunities for veterans to particiapte in ongoing research, and we welcome all veterans and active duty personnel. To learn more about our ongoing research, please visit our Research page. If you are interested in participating, please contact our lab via email: canlab.psych@gmail.com and send us a message with your name and phone number.
